Whistlin' Dixie
 
 
 
Whistlin’ Dixie is a short film written and directed by Morgan Schechter, and produced by Morgan Schechter, Emma Ludbrook, and Tara Duncan.  Susan Anton, Stacie Rippy, Arden Myrin, Paul Gutrecht, John Combs, and Rachelle Carson star as the staff of an ill-fated Home Shopping Network in southern florida.

Concieved as an undergraduate thesis at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, WHISTLIN’ DIXIE was made possible by in-kind donations from Panavision (through their New Filmmaker Program,) Mole Richardson, Fox Studios, ABC Daytime, and MAC Makeup.
In post-production, WHISTLIN’ DIXIE was awarded the Warner Brothers Pictures Film Production Award, and since it’s completion in April of 2004, the film has won The NYU Faculty Commendation for Achievement in Producing, in addition to  the Nestor Almendros Award for Outstanding Female Cinematography, as well as having garnered nominations for both the Hollywood Award for Best Short Film, and the Student DGA Award for Outstading Female Filmmaker.
Rounding out the largely female production crew are; award-winning cinematographer Sara Cavanaugh Roth, costume designer Jessica Moss, (who also made her production design debut with this film,) and Artios Award winning casting director Lori Openden.
Whistlin’ Dixie has screened for audiences at the Hollywood Film Festival, the Firtst Run Film Festival, and most recently, at Kevin Smith’s Movie’s Askew Film Festival, after having been selected from thousands of entries by on-line viewers, as one of only twelve films to appear at the festival.
